Review of Jackie (2016) by Abb J — 20 Dec 2016
Jackie: This Jacqueline Kennedy biopic, focusing on the days immediately following the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy, is short on story and long on iconic imagery well-spliced with archival footage from that historic nightmare.
Natalie Portman exquisitely channels the then First Lady's enigmatic look, voice, and mannerisms, far exceeding the film's unevenly-paced plot (how many times must we see Jackie skulk the halls of The White House and fret over her husband's funeral plans?) and a wildly-inappropriate, jarring score, better suited for a B-grade horror film.
Still, Portman's sorrowful, solemn performance is a must see. B-.
