Review of Jackie (2016) by Zachary V — 06 Jan 2017
It's a very good movie and Portman is awesome.
The film depicts Jackie Kennedy in the days or so after JFK's assassination. We follow Jackie as she has to handle her grief and her funeral arrangements for her murdered husband.
The pain and anguish Jackie felt during these days is brought front and center masterfully by Natalie Portman. Portman isn't just doing an imitation. She really makes you feel the weight on her shoulders, the grieving, the pain of losing her husband. Portman's Jackie perfectly represents the hopes of a generation that seemed brutally smacked with reality after John's death.
The recreations are astounding. It really feels like you're back in 1963. The script is quite good as well, though John Hurt is the only supporting player who really makes an impact. He plays the priest who consoles Portman.
See it. It's really good.
