Review of Jackie (2016) by Taija H — 20 Jan 2017
Very interesting portrayal by Natalie Portman and I can see why she is up for awards. It is a very well made film with excellent period details but I did find the direction a bit self consciously artful.
There are several places where I was very aware of how the director has spent ages getting the position of the shot just right. That's fine, but I feel that's something that should occur to you on the first viewing, not the first.
The first time you see a film , you should be involved in the storytelling or the characters. The same could be said about the editing , just a bit "clever" for its own good. Still worthwhile watching, especially if you have a particular interest in the era.
