Review of Jackie (2016) by Roger B — 21 Jan 2017
There's not much to be said about Jackie apart from the fact that Natalie Portman will break your heart and leave it broken for a while. There is a stillness to the film but the score provided by Mica Levi creates an overwhelming intensity for audiences.
It won't feel like it but Jackie is very much a perfect film. It's understated but nonetheless powerful. Portman's powerhouse performance as the former First Lady makes you reflect upon today's politics and she is accompanied by a great support cast.
It made me think about our current First Lady: Melania Trump and the obligations she is expected to fulfil over the next four years. Neither First Lady wanted to become political, it just happens as the film suggests.
The film couldn't have come out at a better time I thought considering the political climate. It's truly sublime.
