Review of Jackie (2016) by Charles S — 11 Jul 2017
Natalie Portman gives a brilliant performance in this very artsy version of the events surrounding President Kennedy's assassination and funeral.
While exhaustive effort was put into the production to ensure accuracy in virtually every detail, there were some glaring examples of "phoning it in" in terms of production value. The White House interiors, for example, were spot on, but the North Portico looked nothing like that of the real White House, which was highly disappointing considering how iconic that entrance was to JFK's funeral.
Additionally, no effort was made whatsoever to make the JFK house in Hyannis Port look accurate. The location for the Hyannis Port scenes looked nothing like Cape Cod.
All in all, the picture was good, although a little drawn out. The score was too loud, which made it difficult, at times, to hear the breathy voice of Portman's Jackie.
It is worth noting that Portman absolutely nailed the voice and mannerisms of the First Lady of Camelot. She truly gave a stellar performance, worthy of the Oscar nod she received.
