Review of Jackie (2016) by Alice D — 17 Apr 2017
I am going to talk about this tragedy wich I really like by the director Pablo Larrain. The lead actors are Natalie Portman who is playing Jackie Kennedy, Peter Sarsgaard plays Robert Kennedy and Greta Gerwig who is playing Jackie's secretary. It has been released lately 2016.
The whole movie is about Jackie telling her story to a journalist. She explains what happened after her husband's death and thanks to this the journalist might understands her feelings.
The role of Jackie suits Natalie Portman very well. Her acting skills are quite impressive, she really knows how to express all the pain of the former first lady and she shows how much Jackie loved her family. Also, Peter Sarsgaard and Greta Gerwig have very important roles because they confort her, at least they try.
In this movie you can easily distinguished two differents parts. The first is when she is speaking with the journalist and the second is when the whole week takes place. The camera movements and angles are quite amazing and the cuts are always well done with classical music or violin which make every scenes seems unique. Althought costumes shouldn't be very important, I think it was because the way they were all dress expressed the whole mood of an action.
For me the two biggest themes are the love of a wife toward her husband and the way to overcome a bereavement, I particuly like how brilliantly the actors express these two themes.
In conclusion this tragedy is very good maybe a little bit long and slow but it is worth it. I like the fact that it shows how women were considered during this period and how Jackie Kennedy helped with the feminist « aspect ».
