Review of Jackass: The Movie (2002) by Alexander Z — 25 Mar 2010
Jackass has its detractors, no doubt. It's a bunch of charismatic annoying guys doing stupid shit to each other. However, I loved it. If you really think about it, it's just a far more graphic Three Stooges.
Unnecessary violence, slapstick in spades, all dipped in a veneer of gross out. I'm not really a huge fan of gross out humor, mostly because it's nearly impossible to gross me out. I prefer humor with wit and timing.
Fortunately, the Jackass guys have that, and special mention must be paid to the editors and cameramen, who get the right angles and keep the focus just long enough on each stunt to maximize the funniness.
