Review of Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa (2013) by Adam S — 12 Dec 2014
It's mostly crass, disgusting, juvenile and silly, but there is still a surprising amount of genuine laughs to be had in this sketch comedy/hidden camera film from the folks who brought us Jackass.
The film loosely follows the story of Irving Zisman, a sexually repressed foul-mouthed old man who is forced to transport his 8-year old grandson to the boy's father after the boy's mother (Irving's daughter) ends up imprisoned for drug abuse.
The film stars Jackass presenter Johnny Knoxville in heavy prosthetic make up, and is mainly built around public stunts and pranks. The major source of comedy throughout the film seems to stem from the reactions of the public, rather than the pranks themselves, which are usually quite baseless in their wit.
Still, there are some laughs in this film, but it is far from what anyone would call a great comedy. Just an average one.
3 stars.
