Review of Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa (2013) by Anthony I — 18 Dec 2014
Typically, I enjoy watching the messed-up, I-can't-believe-what-I'm-watching, antics of the Jackass crew. Here, they skip on the self-inflicting pranks and gags in favor of making a prank movie in the vein of Borat and Bruno.
They fail miserably. This movie doesn't even try to make the set-ups look real. 99% of them are obviously fake. Sacha Baron Coen set the standard and conquered the craft of messing with people in public with raunchy, offensive characters.
Ever since the countless lawsuits after the release of Bruno, it's been nearly impossible to replicate that format since. Bad Grandpa didn't resurrect it, it pissed on the grave. Save for some laughable moments, this is a sad excuse for a comedy.
