Review of Jack the Giant Slayer (2013) by Kevin R — 16 Aug 2013
Choke on my boys.
Jack was an orphaned boy that lived on minimal income with his foster parents. One day he encounters the princess of the kingdom and they develop affection for each other. Jack is given the duty to sell the family horse for some money and he unwisely obtains magic beans instead of money. His step father throws the beans; and of course, a bean stock grows. Jack is asked to travel up the bean stock since he is the source of the issue. An wild adventure ensues.
"Why is it people always scream before they die? Do they think it is going to help?".
Bryan Singer, director of Usual Suspects, Apt Pupil, X-Men, X2, Superman returns, Valkyrie, and the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, delivers Jack the Giant Slayer. The storyline for this picture was very mediocre; however, the special effects, settings, and costumes were very well done. The acting was fairly mediocre and included Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Nicholas Hoult, and Eleanor Tomlinson.
"Where you go many will follow.".
We grabbed this movie from Redbox the other night because my girlfriend thought the special effects looked solid. I will say the special effects and overall feel of the movie was right on point. The plot was fairly predictable but the film was interesting enough to want to follow all the way through. I do recommend catching this movie once but wouldn't add it to my DVD collection.
"They acquired a taste for things.".
Grade: C+.
