It doesn't get much better than watching an army of giants charge upon a castle, which by comparison may as well have been a wendy house made of straw. It's good honest family fun. The CGI isn't always stunning, but it doesn't detract from the entertainment.
The main downside for me was the casting. I don't particularly like Nicholas Hoult and Ewan McGregor stands out like a sore thumb, I don't know how he ended up in this, must be a huge fan of the story.
