Review of Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014) by Benjamin N — 13 Jul 2014
Hitting the reset after the previous reset failed to take off does Jack Ryan no favours. I'm still not convinced of Pines appeal, he has personally yet to do anything of real note, and being the fourth Ryan in five films does not help his cause.
Branagh is about the only shinning light in this film, but I feel that his duel roles, he directed as well, have prevented him from focusing 100% on either side of the camera. Unlike when Baldwin or Ford inhabited the role I don't look forward to a return of the character and would be very surprised if this gets a sequel.
