Review of Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014) by Omar L — 25 Aug 2014
There's an intelligence in the story and performances that is just begging to be released, but that is sacrificed for a damsel-in-distress action scene that seems out of place in a political thriller with Jack Ryan. The movie's prologue is a fantastic establishing character moment that the books only touched on, and I'm glad to see that Ryan's intelligence and gift of analysis is the core of his character.
Clancy did political thrillers better than no other, and I hope that if there is a next installment, the gravity of geopolitics can be more fully explored.
