Review of Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014) by Jenn M — 07 Jan 2015
This wasn't bad. Not awesome but not incredibly bad either.
I think the cast was decent, I wasn't sure how I woikd believe Chris Pine as Jack Ryan but thankfully he didn't give me the whole Zach Efron vibe, so that worked well. The whole boy scout look with a twisted side was good, I can't think of any other actor in that age bracket that can pull that off and still look mostly manly. Keira was great too, hell, even Costner didn't do too badly.
The story was interesting, not awesome but it was good. No real plot twists or anything, you aren't gasping at the end, but still, the story flowed okay.3.
Some of the camera shots were kinnda lame though. I can't even point out specifics but you know when you're watching a movie and the camera pans in on something and you think, is this really necessary or is this just really obvious filler. I love Kenneth Branagh but this maybe isn't his type of film to direct. It had too much of a dramatic tone (the directing), so I felt like I was watching something that wasn't an action suspense thriller.
Overall it was ok. wouldn't own it but if it came on TV I would watch it again.
