Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit continues the trend of diminishing returns in the Jack Ryan "franchise" (hard to see this as a series, more like a handful of stand-alone films). The movie takes a long time to find its footing, spending a lot of time on Jack Ryan's backstory (who cares? he's a boring character), before getting into the meat of the narrative.

Alec Baldwin was the only actor who was interesting as Jack Ryan, and the previous films all had tighter plots. Still, this movie delivers a few exciting set pieces.
