Review of Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014) by Rees R — 27 May 2014
So we moved from a fantastic 5-star LEGO movie to an abysmal 1-star (RT wouldn't post it on my FB if it was any lower) spy joke. If Kevin Costner isn't in a sports movie, quite frankly I don't want anything to do with it. Now, what's more upsetting is we have Chris Pine in a role most people will compare to Matt Damon from Bourne, but what we have here is a comparison more fitting of his previous role in "This Means War".
This movie was predictable. There was zero ingenuity. No surprises. No twists. No turns. And worst of all, for a spy movie, little if any action. I was not convinced in the story, the love affair or the premise for Jack Ryan.
