Review of Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014) by The Master Of Movies T — 08 Jun 2014
As a spy-action film it is a good time and gives some pretty good thrills but as a Jack Ryan story it is awful and a true disappointment to Tom Clancy fans anywhere who love this character. It's Hollywood's attempt to make Jack Ryan into a Mission: Impossible or James Bond style franchise.
Now just as it's own film its fine, its a smart, sharp and entertaining action-thriller that's taut, thrilling and terrific. Chris Pine is charming and terrific. Kevin Costner is excellent. Kenneth Branagh is great as the villain and does a solid job directing the film, but it also has plenty of flaws and holes, almost feels like it was pressed for time and was rushed but in the end you have fun with it as fair escapism.
