Review of Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014) by Gordon H — 22 Feb 2016
Not bad!

This new entry into the existing Jack Ryan canon does two important things very well: it reboots the character for a younger audience and doesn't conflict with established canon so that later well-known entries in the Jack Ryan saga are still "on course," so to speak. I liked this new film, even more than I thought I would. Chris Pine plays a very believable young Jack Ryan and Kevin Costner does a good job as his hardened CIA operative mentor. Even Keira Knightley surprised me with how well she played her role as Jack's current girlfriend and future wife. This film isn't perfect, and there are plot holes and other problems to be sure, but it is still a fun popcorn movie that I'm sure you'll enjoy.
