This movie celebrates men and women who have definite values and live accordingly despite all risks. Reacher's motivation is explicitly stated as striving for personal freedom and living his virtues.
It is not formulaic action adventure because these heroes have no hand wringing doubts and step up to challenges instead of hackneyed kumbaya moments. Look for author Lee Child's appearance. This movie celebrates life.
