Review of Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016) by James R — 06 May 2017
Oh what a shame. I enjoyed Jack Reacher (2012) quite a bit, but man what happened in the four years in between when this movie came out? Paper thin plot, terrible dialogue and some really huge plot holes is what this mess equals.
Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise) comes to the aid of Major Turner (Cobie Smulders) a woman he literally has just talked to three days before she is arrested for suspicion of being a spy. Reacher knows something is up when he goes to visit Turner, but in turn is blamed for another murder.
Soon enough Reacher is on the run breaking Turner out and dodging a mysterious assassin known as The Hunter (Patrick Heusinger). This leads Reacher to finding more and more information that include a para military unit and some pretty bad dudes.
Oh yeah and they threw in a girl named Samantha (Danika Yarosh) who may or may not have some ties to Reacher. So yeah the movie is all over the place. The plot is hard to follow at times and to tell you the truth not that interesting.
While the first one was great at introducing the character of Reacher and bringing about a murder mystery this one is not really a mystery at all. No big twist and a father/daughter relationship that just never works.
Overall, a big drop from the first film. If they do decide on finishing this up with one last one I hope it returns back to what worked so well in the first film. Definitely, a skip or rental at the very very least.
