Review of Jack Reacher (2012) by Ilsa W — 25 Aug 2013
Despite people telling me Tom Cruise was all wrong for this part as he looks nothing like Reacher in the book I found him believable and likeable as Jack Reacher. I haven't read any of the books, but I have to say even the naysayers I was watching with were pleasantly surprised.
This would never have worked with a younger Cruise but since he's got older, more wiry and more lived in I think he pulled this part off with aplomb. Pair that was a great performance from David Oyelowo, who reminds of a young Sidney Poitier and a fun cameo-esque appearance from Robert Duvall, and you have a very entertaining thriller.
There were some great fight scenes and action sequences, and a few amusing moments here and there, I was particularly amused at the part where Reacher uses a guys head to beat up another guy lying underneath him.
My only disappointments being a rather bland performance from Rosamund Pike and a bit of corny dialogue at times, but this could have come from the book so i'm not sure who is at fault.
