Review of Jack Reacher (2012) by Luke H — 13 Oct 2014
The action was hard hitting and gritty but the story ultimately fell flat with the typical conspiracy yarn of big business killing for profit. Cruise is good and is surprisingly believable as the micro super solider with a conscience - it's all in the way he hits (although a lot was said about his casting, due to the fact that in the books Reacher is meant to be 6+ and blonde I felt that Reacher being smaller and more unassuming gave it more weight) The film boasts a strong supporting cast with Pike a good choice as the headstrong lawyer, she is beautiful and intelligent and does a good flustered swoon.
The bad guys were bad which is refreshing, but sadly I think this film could of gone even darker. It all seemed to nicely wrapped up and too Hollywood clean. I was hoping for something more akin to Collateral.
(Cruises best piece of acting to date) but got an episode of 24 with Cruise as a less jaded Bauer.
