Review of Jack Reacher (2012) by Brandon Yuji N — 19 Mar 2015
I demand more "Jack Reacher" movies.
Tom Cruise is his usual charming self as a army vet who has dropped out of society because society doesn't live up to his example. He arrives after a horrifying sniper attack kills five civilians. The suspect won't speak with the authorities and instead writes that they should find Jack Reacher. He shows up anyway and begins to work with the suspect's lawyer to uncover a conspiracy.
Rosamund Pike and Cruise have great chemistry as they conflict over what has happened. Jai Courtney as the real sniper is quiet and menacing, Robert Duvall as Cash is funny as a shooting range owner brought into the action.
The story is smart and it mixes fantastic action sequences with P.I. like investigation sequences and crackling dialogue. The exciting car chase that strings together Reacher chasing after the bad guys as the police chase after Reacher is great. The resolution is satisfying and it seems apparent that there should be many more adventures for Reacher.
