The book was awesome. the series of books are awesome. the movie would have been totally awesome had Tom cruise not been allowed to play the role. if you haven't read the books, then it probably won't matter.
however, in the books, Jack Reacher is six feet seven and 250 lbs, a physically intimidating person. does Tom cruise even remotely resemble that description? no. that ruined the movie for me in many ways.
