Review of Jack Reacher (2012) by Dylan D — 30 Aug 2014
Jack Reacher is an average crime thriller, but one that leaves a lot to be desired. The script is predictable and filled with many cliches but it somehow manages to be enjoyable. Tom Cruise is good here but in terms of acting there aren't any standout performances.
At times, the film feels like a standard and generic thriller as there is nothing that seperates this from the others. Jack Reacher is enjoyable and fun but it's not one of the best in the genre or a destined classic.
The film tries to blend humour with a dark tone and it just comes off as messy and awkward. I wish Robert Duvall had more screen time because his character was pretty cool. Now, I haven't read the book, so by judging it as a film all I can say is that it's average.
It's not horrible, but it's not great either. Just somewhere in the middle.
