Review of Jack Reacher (2012) by B. S — 15 Jan 2014
Here's why it didn't work for me: The main character was introduced incorrectly and the mishandled story was not executed properly.
Jack Reacher's character isn't even fully described until the middle to end of the movie. He's made to be a super human 'get it done man' without delving into the whys of how he came to be until the movie is almost over.
Next, every beat of this movie while it may not have been super predictable, was easy to the point of being lame. The story was paced well with action, at times complex, but it wasn't cleaver enough. It didn't keep me on the edge of my seat guessing. The feeling was more like: 'ah, ok'.
And don't even get me started on the (very pretty) 'deer in the headlights' female co-star!
Either give me romance or don't! It's simple. But please don't give me an out of place AWKWARD wide-eyed 'maybe I like you' 'I'll stand super close to you for practically no reason' "put your shirt on" almost type of love. It just wasn't necessary. It didn't drive the plot. There was no point.
I think this movie has another major flaw to do with the female co-star an the case but that's all I can say without giving absolutely too much away.
Although the main idea is interesting and the b/g for Jack Reacher is intriguing, I do NOT recommend this movie.
