Unsure as to why the critics seem to think Hoffman failed to translate this stage-play to the screen. Sure, he could have done with opening up the frame a little here and there but there are enough visual flourishes (not to mention razor-sharp editing) to give this directorial dà (C)but a cinematic feel.

Several scenes had me entirely enraptured and the acting was top-notch; if you like small scoped indie dramas about social misfits Jack Goes Boating has a lot to offer.
