Review of Jack Goes Boating (2010) by Matt S — 28 Feb 2011
Though I'm a huge fan of Philip Seymour Hoffman and his performances, this film was a bit slight. I blame the script and the lack of energy, but for his first directing debut, it's not bad. However, the tension and the climax were pretty spot-on.
I want to see more John Ortiz, who does well here as Jack's only friend. The cynic in me says f this movie and its too hip Grizzly Bear soundtrack, but it's pretty hard to deny a cathartic film such as this that features the classic Hoffman and his ticks.
He almost pulls it off, almost.
