Review of Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer (2007) by Joseph S — 19 Oct 2008
Young man seems his family killed by a monster and grows up with some serious anger issues. How to deal with them? Become a full time monster slayer, that's how! When he's not doing his plumbing duties, that is.
If this is the start to a new franchise, that's cool. Because it does move a little slow and focus a little too much on shit that doesn't end up going anywhere. BUT, Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger, mothertruckers!) has an awesome part as a possessed college professor who turns into a giant BADASS monster.
And all the monsters are done with makeup and animatronics (NO CG, booyah!!!) so they look really awesome. This could be a good starting point to a fine series. Later entries could be better paced, though.
