Review of Jack and Jill (2011) by Eunice Y — 15 May 2016
Aw c'mon, this movie is pretty funny. It's what you'd expect from a Sandler family movie and I thought Sandler did a great job as Jill. He has a level of sensitivity that seems genuine that makes his formula of crass humour and sentimentality work. I think some may not like the sister character simply because well, Sandler as a woman is.
Not what one considers a classic beauty which for some may be a quick turn off from the rest of the movie. But the caricature is the point. She's meant to be grating and hard-to-bear so that the characters can learn to give her a chance and show her some kindness and understanding. Pretty basic and why not? She's a sweetheart and I love her. Also, Al Pacino is SO hilarious in this. I'm glad this movie exists. I usually can't stand useless celeb cameos but I liked most of the ones in this movie. Norm McDonald always plays the perfect asshole. It is what it is. Familiar, Authentic Sandler. It's sweet and it celebrates the ridiculous with reckless abandon.
