Review of Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012) by Deepesh S — 16 Nov 2012
Yash Chopra did indeed go out in style. Nobody in the world will ever be capable of creating this same kind of magic on screen again. Every second is a spectacle to behold and cinematic brilliance at its finest.
There is no way I can possibly put into words the magnitude of the great Shahrukh Khan's performance. Every single emotion, be it a childish innocence or uncontrollable rage, was portrayed in a manner that I never imagined any person on Earth was capable of reaching.
He really took not only his personal acting but the world of movies in general to a new level with his outstanding performance. Katrina Kaif is a beautiful as ever, sometimes even to the point that I was shocked such a person exists in this world.
She also has soared to new heights and broadened her range of acting with this performance, so much so that it could possibly change the face of her career. The most fun person to watch, though, hands down, is Anushka Sharma.
How she could pull off playing such a bubbly, charming, witty, incredibly energetic person is beyond me. She stole the show from Shahrukh at some points and continues to mature significantly as an actress and will undoubtedly have many many more years of prominence in front of her.
Music is another story...amazing. Possibly A.R. Rahman's best work to date, as with each instrument he provides a sense of depth to each character in the narrative. Best is hands down Ishq Shava, in which he uses his masterful fusion with Arabic beats to create the most genius song ever composed before.
The choreography of this song, as well as Ishq Dance, was mind blowing and shocking to me. Most definitely the best music video I have ever witnessed in this industry, or any industry whatsoever. I will live and re-live those 10 minutes over and over during the course of my life.
Just incredible. Amazing cinematography-possibly the best ever-and mind numbing visuals. The backdrop of the Thames river adds so much depth to the love story of these two characters and does wonders to push the story forward in many ways.
This story is shocking at times, incorporating various plot twists that nobody would have ever imagined, and keeps the viewers on edge the entire 3 hours. Incredible. The subtly implied messages that he conveys to the viewers are eye opening and really gives one perspective on life.
Sadly, these lessons are the last ones that Yash Chopra will ever teach us. Nobody could ever provoke such emotions in movie goers in just 3 hours. We will all miss his genius filmmaking, as it will never be matched by anyone.
The good thing is, we have this movie and many others to remember him by. We will never forget him...Jab tak hai jaan. Jab tak hai jaan....
