Review of J. Edgar (2011) by Bibek C — 07 Apr 2012
This film was excellent, yet it didn't receive one Oscar nomination, which shocks me. The acting by Leo DiCaprio and Armie Hammer were excellent, as was the direction by Clint Eastwood, and the aging makeup for the various actors.
The costumes were good and the screenplay by Dustin Lance Black ("Milk") was very good. Very sad that the academy snubbed the entire film, as it didn't receive one single Oscar nomination! The film is a very realistic portrayal of the oppressive head of the FBI for decades and the story did not shy away from controversy, including Hoover's rumoured love for a fellow male FBI agent and Hoover dressing in drag.
