Review of J. Edgar (2011) by Ryan O — 07 Aug 2012
J Edgar.
The latest film entry by director Clint Eastwood could have been another American classic to an already established career of huge hits as an actor and a director. Unfortunately, J. Edgar takes a potentially interesting and controversial subject and turns it into a series of flashbacks posited as little vingettes of Hooverâ??s upbringing, his rise to power, and his secret personal life.
The performances by lead actor Leonardo DiCaprio as Hoover is compelling and as usual DiCaprio does a good job with the material he is given, but it doesnâ??t quite seem like enough to lift what should have been a great bio pic to a level of Eastwoodâ??s caliber.
I found J Edgar to be confusing at times which at times felt like I was watching a rough edited cut of the film with major gaps and holes that resembled a not so complete picture.
