Review of J. Edgar (2011) by Iven S — 03 Sep 2012
I thought it was a pretty solid bio-pic about one of the more mysterious characters in our american history. Certainly worthy of a biopic (personally I'd rather watch a documentary most of the time), but I thought it was slow, but worked pretty well to highlight the main points of Hoover's career, while also touching on what little we know about his personal life which may be the most interesting part about him.
The movie leaves you with a lot of questions, but then again, so does Hoover in real life. I don't know if those are holes in the script/filmmaking or done on purpose. Hard to say. A lot of people rip the make-up and the aging, but I think they did a pretty good job with it and DiCaprio (somehow) looks the part very well and he pulls off a very convincing performance, one that I had to see to believe.
