Review of J. Edgar (2011) by Sally A — 23 Sep 2012
This was technically very good, great director, great cast, interesting subject, fascinating history - so why was I SO bored?! The film jumps backwards and forwards constantly which I always find irritating.
The film is also told almost completely from J. Edgar's perspective which made it a bit difficult to get the whole picture in that he had a lot of critics and we don't hear much from them. I also found there was a lot of mumbling! I was constantly straining to hear what was being said, this is the kind of film you need to put the subtitles on to watch properly.
I think this would have been a better film had it been more objective.
