Review of J. Edgar (2011) by Lynny L — 03 Nov 2012
J. Edgar is one of those diamonds heavely underated by even the best reviewers. If there is one thing to be mentioned about this one; then that would be, that's it's very heavy, not entertaining, not easy on the viewer. And although it could have easily been lighter, by adding some heavely stringed emotional music or some action packed scenes just to satisfy the audience..... J. Edgar just doesn't. Eastwood made a picture, not a hamburger. A true diamond in the rough.
A great mistake of most reviewers is to see a brilliant performance by diCaprio against a greyd out background. Every bit of the movie is brilliant and that's why diCaprio stands out. And so he does. This might be his best role to date because it's the first time you won't see Leonardo playing himself in a different role. He's Edgar. Fragile and monsterous, and obove all human.
Eastwood wants to point out something. But he doesn't want to push you into a certain direction. He wants you to see for yourself, and if so, come to different conclusions.
So, see for yourself.
