Review of J. Edgar (2011) by Daniel P — 25 Nov 2013
Long, dramaless and boring. The is not good storytelling. Virtually every shot is DiCaprio. Are there no other people around him to make Hoover's story interesting? Could Eastwood not have found some useful subplot somewhere? Because the main storyline is droning and repititive.
It shuttles back and forth through time so poorly, it's pointless. Why did they cast Naomi Watts in such a relatively insignificant role? If she supposed to be key, Eastwood does an awful job of delivering her importance.
The overly dark cinematography had me nodding off. The constant old person makeup was distracting. The one scene that could have been really good, where Hoover confronts his sexuality, is loose and unengaging.
The handling of the Lindbergh Baby case is a waste. This movie is completely uninspiring. Ugh.
