Review of J. Edgar (2011) by C H — 28 Mar 2013
Pretty good movie but I felt it lacked just a bit of something to make it truly great. DiCaprio does just fine as the title character and we get glimpses into how he maintained his power but they never really got too caught up in the political intrigue he must have been a part of after all those years.
They just made it as a scratch the surface type of bio movie which could have offered so much more. Having the movie be about older Hoover recalling his younger days of how he started was a bad idea since you have to give the movie bias based on the character, they should have gave us a straight forward bio from a third person perspective.
I thought DiCaprio's turn as Howard Hughes in the Aviator was so much better. Still, the acting and the directing was solid as were the co-stars, but it left me wanting more.
