Review of I've Loved You So Long (2008) by Jon G — 15 Mar 2009
Kristin Scott Thomas, you may have been robbed at this year's Oscars. The noted English actress jumps across the channel to deliver an exceptional performance as Juliette, a woman who after a 15 year prison sentence must deal with the world outside as well as the horrific act that put her behind bars in the first place.
With nowhere to go, she is taken in by her younger sister and the healing, understanding and heartbreak begins. What's amazing about Thomas here is that the realization of her character is so effortless, genuine and channeled, you'd assume it was Jacqueline Bisset or Juliette Binoche if you'd close your eyes.
Also very strong is Elsa Zylberstein as the patient but conflicted woman who isn't sure how to handle her sibling's tortured past. There are some narrative pieces missing from the whole but for Ms.
Thomas alone, it's worth a look.
