Review of I've Loved You So Long (2008) by Gillian N — 23 Mar 2009
Certainly a well done film- I've Loved You So Long documents the first days after release for a woman who has served 15 years in prison.
Another powerful character driven film forcing the audience to walk in the less desirable shoes of another in a noble effort to help humankind, as a collective, come to understand how someone can commit the unthinkable and force us- in the disconnected state we live- to appreciate the ties that bind, family.
I feel the ending "twist", if you will, is a little bit of a cop out- but overall the writing, direction and performances are top notch.
It sadly falls into that category of worlds I will probably not choose to revisit in the next 15 years. Who knows- I said the same thing about Natural Born Killers when I left the theater.
Definitely a solid little French movie that successfully builds on themes of forgiveness, optimism, empathy and familial love.
