Review of I've Loved You So Long (2008) by Kimberly B — 05 May 2009
The movie itself was ok. Not bad, but not great, and the "mystery" surrounding Juliette's motivation for her crime was not mysterious in the least -- I guessed why she did it from the first moment we learned her crime. Still, this isn't the main point of the movie, so it's not a serious flaw.
Another movie about people coming out of prison & trying to readjust to the real world and rebuild a life. Kristin Scott Thomas is fantastic in this role & is the real reason for watching this film. It's especially impressive that French is her second language. Yet another example of a performance that deserved more attention from Hollywood than it received. Maybe because she looked uglier than usual, but not ugly enough (think Marion Cotillard or Charlize Theron)? As I read somewhere, Oscar loves beautiful women gone ugly. Or those who bare their boobs (Halle Barry, Gwynneth Paltrow), and she didn't do that, either.
