Review of I've Loved You So Long (2008) by Craig B — 11 Sep 2009
This is a wonderful movie. I am a long time fan of Kristin Scott Thomas, and she does an amazing job in this film. Thomas inhabits the role with a grace and naturalness that draws you in. Her character Juliette has very little dialogue, but Thomas' expressiveness as an actor is outstanding.
The superb direction and the skillful structure of the film create a story that is riveting and fascinating to watch unfold. Although the title sounds like a tragic romance, it's really about family relationships, a close knit bond between sisters, and overcoming tragic loss and profound pain.
It's wonderful to watch Juliette slowly come to life and reclaim her place in the world. This film made me cry, but in a good way!
