Review of I've Loved You So Long (2008) by Niamh F — 04 Mar 2009
A very nice little movie. The mood and tone were soft but serious with understated tension. It's not trying to solve or answer anything, if anything it presented the complexity of dealing with the main character amidst trying to move forward with busy everyday lives. At times I felt it was a bit rosy and brief. The storyline was very well arranged, couldn't have worked any other way I think.
I guess for it being French and all, everything "looked" great, Kristen Scott Thomas' wardrobe evolution from the beginning of the movie where her character was cold, distant, and didn't fit in to the end of the movie where she was starting to get her life back together, to the sensible yet stylish wardrobe of the professor younger sister, to how the characters blended in or stood out from the background.
I love the younger sister character, the way she looks at the main character, and her internal conflict with this whole thing. The 2 little girls were also really lovely. I wonder if their function was to represent the adult sisters when they were really young.
