Review of I've Loved You So Long (2008) by Jim G — 02 Jul 2009
This is one tough movie. It's essentially about the things we *don't* say to each other and the way we condemn ourselves to our own private prisons when we don't believe anyone can help us in our struggles.
Kristin Scott Thomas delivers a remarkable performance as Juliette (she was criminally denied an Oscar nomination), and Elsa Zylberstein is quite impressive as her sensitive sister.
The movie is very deliberately paced--it moves slowly, and it seems at times to meander around and contemplate Juliette's predicament. But it's worth sticking with--I suspect the final scene will stay with me for quite some time.
