Review of I've Loved You So Long (2008) by Mason B — 19 Mar 2010
This is a truly emotionally compelling film. I've Loved You So Long is an emotional film that is occasionally hard to watch. The story about a women returning to society after fifteen years in prison asks some hard questions and never gives easy answers.
The director handles some though issues with grace and caution, and never asks you to sympathize with the main character. Kristen Scott Thomas handles her character with grace and dignity, keeping her character restrained until she lets all her rage out.
She makes you feel her character's pain, loss, and happiness. There are some problems with the film being emotionally distant. You feel more like your witnessing the event instead of being a part of it.
However there is some impressive writing here, and the great dialogue that usually comes with a French movie.
