This is the kind of film that makes me love film. It's low key, quirky, has its ups and downs and is overall completely charming. Zach Galifianakis steals the show, but Keir Gilchrist gives him a run for his money and Emma Roberts is surprisingly good.
It's Kind of a Funny Story manages to not be preachy and corny, and while a few of the gags fall a bit short, it doesn't matter becuase everything is done under the radar. Besides this is a film that has a cadence that follows that of real life and sometimes things just fall flat. It's a special kind of film that can work its shortcomings into its structure, making them no longer shortcomings, and It's Kind of a Funny Story has that.
