Review of It's Kind of a Funny Story (2010) by Sam B — 12 Feb 2012

A fun and diferent expirience that makes you remember how good life is. This movie has lot of heart, but I don't know, this movie just didn't had it all, it was funny, it was smart, it has lot of heart like I said but there's still missing something. I do recommend this movie but I can unfortunatly say that I thought it was better. Nice movie.

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are the two persons who direct and write this movie, but let me tell you something, I didn't gave this movie an awesome rating but I can see that these two directors tried really hard to make this movie hard and I can see that they wanted to make a really nice heartweamming film, I can say that they directed this movie well. Keir Gilchrist takes the lead role, I never heard of this guy but he did had a good character and a nice perfomance, Keir is known from The Rocker and some other titles. Zach Galifianakis is one of my 5 favorite actors and he keeps like that in here, one of the reasons that maked me want to see this movie was Zach and I really liked him here,e ven though he's nothing like his dumb and hilarious characters, but I loved his character, I loved his perfomance and he was funny here, he's really an amazing actor and he shows that besides comedy, he also has some talent to play in other genres of movies, he was defenitly the best actor in here, Zach is known from my second favorite movie, wich is The Hangover, Zach is also known from my third favorite movie, wich is The Hangover Part 2, Zach is also known from my fourth favorite movie, wich is Due Date, Zach is also known from my fifth favorite movie, wich is Dinner for Schmucks, Zach is also known from G-Force, Up in the Air, Puss in Boots, The Muppets and some other movies. Emma Roberts in my opinion, was never awful in her movies, but I think that this was the highlight of her career, she had a credible teen character and I loved her perfomance and character here, she was funny and she was really good in this movie, Emma is known from Hotel for Dogs, Wild Child and some other movies. Viola Davis completes the main cast, she was okay, she had a good role as sort of a shrink and I liked her here, but she still didn't had an outtstanding role, Viola is known from Trust, The Help, Doubt and some other movies. Sow, as you can see, this movie has a good cast, but Zach is in it, so this movie had an amazing cast. Everybody was funny, almost everyone had a nice character and perfomance.

A depressed teenager named Craig (Keir Gilchrist) checks himself into an adult pshyciatric ward. There he will get friends with Bobby (Zach Galifianakis), a guy who is having a bad time. He knows Noelle (Emma Roberts) who he will have fun with. There he will do all sorts of things with diferent peole, but the most important fact is: Will he appreciate life again?(What I thought about the plot) Sow, this is basicly what the plot is about, I liked the plot, but watching a movie with a hospital as the place where everything happens is kind of, I don't know, bad, they could have rewrite the script, because this movie had potential and the ending of it defines what it's really about and besides some bad things about the plot, the plot has a big moral that we never get tired of seing, wich is live. The plot really worked here and it just has one or two flaws in it.

Soundtrack well, I guess I didn't heard any themes or something like that, I think that they only chosed some songs and put them in the movie and they chosed some nice songs.

Besides all that, I am now going to tell you what I really thought about this movie. First of all, I can see that they did a lot to make this movie be good, but they just couldn't and I'm sorry for that. This is a movie with heart and I recommend it, but I had no idea that I wasn't going to like the movie that much, because I actually wanted to see it, but look, no one is perfect. This movie is like those kinds of movies where we thought that we were going to like it but then at the beginning we are not liking it that much and we think, oh, this is just the beginning, the rest must be good, but then we see ourselfs standing in the coutch for more than a half hour and the movie hasn't change, that's exactly what happened to me. I undertand the 7.1 in IMDb, some peole liked it a lot and I don't blame them, I do recommend to watch this movie, it's a fun and diferent expirience, but it's still nothing perfect. Lots of things didn't go well here and some did and this movie has lots of ups and downs, the ending was good and makes you think that the movie was just about that good thing but that ending makes you kind of forget the bad things behind but that didn't happened to me, this movie had some big flaws and I'm sorry about that, you might want to waste your time watching other movie but we can always take some time and watch it if you want, but you won't be surprised. Overall, not fantastic or genious movie, it has a great cast, an okay plot and it's unfortunatly just entertaining for a few moments. This is no memorable movie, but it still deserves to be watched. Okay.
