Despite the bland rating chosen, there's a lot to recommend this movie as an idle pleasure: for starters, it's a movie based on a YA novel that actually capitalizes on the paranoia and sarcastic reactions of adolescence, often playing like a love letter to self-aware 80s comedies.
Many plot developments play out too neatly, especially the extremely idealistic, love-fixes-all romance, but those are mild side effects for such gentle cinematic therapy.
