Nancy Meyers' philosophy seems to be that if you put reasonablly sensible adults into ridiculous situations, you will get some laughs. In this case, you do. A cast whose abilities range from good to brilliant makes the most of the screenplay given them.
Smart direction does the same. An ending that refuses to follow a formula took me by surprise.
