Start with a believable upper-middle class family. Add in a few romantic complications, advice from the shrink, French cuisine humour, and a few good actors. Mix together with some inoffensive dialogue and cheap laughs.

Let the audience simmer with some good old, disingenuous, will-they-won't-they. Ensure the drama in the denouement does not cause any distress and end with a predictable and morally acceptable clichà (C).

It's not that complicated when you know the formula!
